Our History
In 2007, a compassionate group in Hermanus recognised the urgent need for a homeless shelter. This led to the establishment of a temporary shelter in a double garage near the Municipal office, supplemented by a caravan. Despite the challenges and limited resources, this initiative provided invaluable lessons for future endeavors.
Tragically, the death of a homeless individual at the local newspaper's entrance spurred the creation of this temporary solution, during which time sadly, additional lives were lost
By 2015, the temporary shelter had to close due to municipal decisions regarding health and hygiene standards. However, the community's commitment never wavered. Supported by the generosity of the Lighthouse2Lighthouse ladies, efforts to secure a permanent location finally bore fruit with the purchase of a plot in Mt. Pleasant next to the Child Welfare offices.
Thanks to the generosity of many supporters, a permanent location was secured in Mt. Pleasant, paving the way for our current 32 bed night shelter that opened in 2022.
